If we make it to $1,500 by close, we'll add to our prize draw ONE COMPLETE SET of all Hue & Cry's publications: that's Issues 1-7 of the journal, A Man Runs into a Woman, and One Human in Height, to go with your copy of Autobiography of a Marguerite. All pledges $25 and over will be in to win. Sound good? Please spread the word.

Two updates to our rewards:

* We're giving away TWO FREE 2 Issue subscriptions to Hue & Cry Journal. All pledges $25 and over go into the draw. Winners will be named here and on Facebook when the project closes.

* As with previous projects we've decided to make book-themed button badges again. All pledges that include a copy of the book will get one. Zarah is scheming away on the texts right now, so feel free to put in any requests.

Autobiography of a Marguerite is the debut poetry collection by Zarah Butcher-McGunnigle. It will be published by Hue & Cry Press.

Autobiography of a Marguerite is an innovative autobiography, and possibly the first of its kind to be published in New Zealand. It is a book about illness, family dysfunction, and identity, and how they can shape one another. The narrator struggles with the effects of her auto-immune illness, and struggles to separate herself from her troubled mother. The narrative that emerges from the connected prose poems is both revealing and mysterious. Fragmentation, non-linearity and the use of footnotes reflect the disruptive nature of illness and the nature of recalling memories and family patterns.

Zarah Butcher-McGunnigle’s work has appeared in a wide range of publications. Along with Hue & Cry these include Sport and Landfall, and her poems have been selected for Best New Zealand Poems in 2011 and 2012. She has a Masters in Creative Writing from the International Institute of Modern letters, where was awarded the Biggs Poetry Prize for her manuscript, the first rendition of Autobiography of a Marguerite.

Hue & Cry Press is a Wellington based publishing group, born as an extension of the New Zealand art and literary print publication, Hue & Cry JournalA Man Runs into a Woman and One Human in Height, the first books published by Hue & Cry Press, were also a product of Pledge Me's crowd-funding. A Man Runs into a Woman was a finalist for Best Poetry Book at the 2013 New Zealand Post Book Awards, and One Human In Height was recently given an enthusiastic review in the NZ Listener.

The team behind the book's production includes Chloe Lane as publisher, Amy Brown as editor, Sarah Jane Barnett as editorial advisor. And the award-winning Wellington-based design group, The International Office (www.the-international-office.com), will design and typeset the book.

The final phase of editorial work on Autobiography of a Marguerite has begun, with the manuscript entering the last stages of the editing process. We are hoping to release the book in May 2014. However, we need support to help cover printing costs, to get this brilliant book out into the world.

** For those of you who are interested in a taste, excerpts from Autobiography of a Marguerite can be found in Hue & Cry, Issue Seven: Deep, and online here in Turbine 13.
