Are you tired of hearing about the high unemployment rate? Do you think Kiwis deserve a chance to get the skills and training they need to get into employment and contribute towards the growth of NZ economy? Help us do something about it!

At GetSkills our vision is to help unemployed people to get the skills that companies are looking for and ensure that Kiwi companies have the skilled workforce available that they need to compete internationally in this age of globalisation and tough competition.  

GetSkills is a social initiative started by a group of working IT Professionals in New Zealand sharing a common goal of upskilling New Zealand’s unemployed people and graduates on various practical IT skills. 

This upskilling is done by working professionals in after office hours using GetSkills Virtual Classroom portal.

Software Testing

GetSkills has chosen software testing as the first skill to be part of this initiative. There’s a shortage of software testers and it’s the aim of the programme to turn out skilled testers who can enter the workforce at the completion of their training.GetSkills is an Australia NZ Testing Board approved ISTQB Foundation Training service provider GetSkills Accreditation from ANZTB

At the moment we are working at a small level, and we have seen positive results, but to make a real difference we need to increase the scale and intensity of the training that we offer. To achieve this we need your help!

The money raised will go towards setting up GetSkills IT Labs all over New Zealand which we will use for training purposes. We need to set up these Labs even in the smallest towns of NZ where students from high school , college graduates and unemployed people from any age group can do hands on IT network equipments, Software Systems, Mobile applications and Embedded systems.

Also, it will help us hire the people that we need to make this initiative a success. 

We believe in our vision and are working hard to enable Kiwis to help themselves. But we need your support to continue our work. 

Recruitment Process for the Program

GetSkills maintains a very high standard in recruiting candidates for the up skilling program. We understand how important it is to have a good resource in a software team for successful project delivery. Candidates are put through a rigorous selection process.

The Process involves

● Submit EOI and CV to show their intent in building a software testing career.
● Online Mental Ability Test, covering questions on puzzles, logical reasoning, situation reaction and decision making.
● Personal interview with an industry expert.

GetSkills has set up an easy-to- access platform where, in a matter of minutes, businesses can access key information on all the up skilled candidates. This includes a virtual classroom facility with a white board, video conferencing and breakout room that can be used to interview these candidates. This is all available at no cost to the potential employer.

This initiative is based on the “Pay it forward” idea where these candidates once placed will work in up skilling other unemployed people and helping them into employment.

The ultimate objective is to bring the unemployment numbers down in the NZ and help the IT sector fill roles where there’s currently a shortage.
