Collab Project with Loading Docs

LOADING DOCS is a trailblazing new initiative co-funded by The New Zealand Film Commission and NZ On Air, and managed by production company Notable Pictures to fund, create and distribute innovative New Zealand documentary shorts.

The tiny, picturesque town of Raglan has always been an idyllic home for its residents. But for the past year, a dark mystery has been unfolding. More than 30 domestic cats have disappeared, with some later turning up dead, partially frozen, wrapped in plastic bags.

The community is rattled and divided. Whispers are circulating about who the culprit could be. Some support their actions, while others condemn them. Signs have been erected. The community is fractured, suspicious, scared.

Directed by Aidee Walker and produced by Alexander Gandar, Catkiller is a short documentary that seeks to uncover those responsible for these killings. What have they done to this community? Is it possible they are justified? One thing is certain: there is a killer, and we want to find them.

We have been selected to make this film as a part of the inaugural Loading Docs initiative. But we need your help in raising an additional $2000 to completely cover our production costs. If you’re a supporter of animal welfare, have an interest in wildlife protection, or even if you simply want to find out who the killer is, please check out our awesome rewards, and pledge your support!

AIDEE WALKER (DIRECTOR/WRITER)

Aidee has worked consistently in New Zealand film, theatre and television for the past decade, and is perhaps best known for her acting role as Draska in the popular New Zealand television series Outrageous Fortune. After returning to New Zealand from years living, performing and studying abroad, Aidee began to make the transition into writing and directing film. Her debut short film, The F.E.U.C, had a successful international festival run, including selection into the Palm Springs International Film Festival in California. Her second short, Friday Tigers, was funded through the New Zealand Film Commission’s Fresh Shorts scheme, and has so far achieved a staggering level of success, including winning Best Short Film and the Audience Award at the New Zealand International Film Festival, and official selection in the Melbourne International Festival.

ALEXANDER GANDAR (PRODUCER)

Alexander began his career producing music videos for Tim van Dammen of Blur & Sharpen Films, alongside the completion of a Masters in Screen Production at the University of Auckland. Over the past few years Alexander has maintained a steady stream of work as a producer, director and editor of short films and music videos, including directing for The Veils, Watercolours and - co-directing with Aidee Walker - Anna Coddington. He is the producer of Aidee's upcoming short Break In The Weather, and is currently developing a feature project with Tim van Dammen.
