What's Oracle Drive?

Oracle Drive is a sideways take on Auckland’s North Shore directed by Gabriel White and produced by curator Amelia Harris. Through deadpan monologues, ambiguous performances, eerie music and striking digital effects the film provokes unexpected, even magical ways of seeing habitually overlooked, slightly haunting territories.

Who else is involved?

The film employs the talents of Chris O'Connor (music), Markus Hofko (effects) and performers Nicholas Butler, Alexa Wilson, Tessa Mitchell, Richard von Sturmer and Karin Hofko.

Help us fly

With the bulk of the film completed, we wish to add some spectacular segments filmed from a helicopter. The idea is to arrange for performers on the ground (you perhaps?) to do specific actions which will be shot from above. It will be an exciting filming process and will add a Felliniesque touch to the film. Imagine dramatic aerial footage set to music where unexpected events appear fleetingly amid the mundane landscape. Each site filmed also features as a scene or scenes in the other parts of the film, so the aerial footage will reinforce the idea of the film as a contiguous surreal cinematic 'map'.

Where's the money going?

In short, on a one-hour helicopter flight. The rest is our goodwill. With our expertise and vision and this additional footage we believe we can make the film look as if it involved a much bigger budget than it did. This is something our team is very experienced at! (Funding so far, thanks to Media Arts CNZ, has been $3785 for the soundtrack and digital effects, the rest has been volunteered.)

Music and FX

Any funding in excess of our funding target will automatically go towards further developing the music and digital effects for the film.

Why support this?

This is a film exploring form and content way outside of conventional boundaries. More importantly, it possesses a singularity of vision rare in New Zealand underground cinema. Finally, who wouldn't want to support an art film that seriously messes with the North Shore!
