The Marriage Of Figaro - A French Comedy
Project 2014-01-20 22:29:02 +1300
A COMEDY!!!
The Marriage of Figaro, a comedy by French playwright Beaumarchais, was performed for the first time in April 1784. The opening night was a tremendous success and the theatre was so packed that it could not fit everyone who came to see the play. Exactly 230 years later, the French Society at Victoria University of Wellington is staging Beaumarchais' masterpiece again.
Musicians and dancers
The same play inspired Mozart's opera, Le Nozze di Figaro (1786), and our performance itself will be full of music, dancing and songs.
Where? How much? and other FAQs ;)
The play will be performed in the beautiful Memorial Theatre (360 seats) in May 2014, on Kelburn campus (VUW), with no admission fee: our aim is to offer a beautiful performance, for free, to the community of Wellington.
We will be performing in French but there will be English subtitles for non-French speaking audience members. The very physical acting we are working on is also meant to make the play understandable by anyone, whether you understand French or not.
Our crew involves a dozen of actors and another dozen of musicians, dancers and backstage people, all dedicated to make this project work.
The money that will be raised will be used to create a beautiful atmosphere on stage (curtains, costumes, elements of decoration and props, etc).
Don't forget to check our facebook page, which will be frequently updated as we get closer to the actual performance dates!!!
