Winter Jam - Active Citizen Scholarships

Project 2012-04-26 02:39:24 +1200

What do you reckon a group of motivated, informed and intelligent young people could do to change the world?

We're keen to find out and we need your help to do it.

Winter Jam is a 5-day, national youth event for awesome, active young people from all over Aotearoa to meet, share ideas on positive change and make plans for the future. It's designed to bring together a group of young people who are psyched on active citizenship - volunteering, voting, protesting, submissions, generosity, philanthropy and much more.

It's a chance to get together, get informed and get thinking about citizenship, participation and governance. We’ll be hearing from current councilors, public servants, community workers and educators, examining the different components of active citizenship, discussing what it means to be a local and global citizen and talking about ideas and possibilities for the future.

Over the following six months, we'll be working hard to develop a strategy for increasing active citizenship in Aotearoa, culminating in a Wellington based event, where the group can share ideas with educators, policy makers and peers and make it happen!

But we need your help. We want diversity in the room and to make sure we get it, we need to some scholarships. Winter Jam costs $400 per person - a price that includes food, accommodation, facilitation and all the extra little bits a pieces that make events awesome. We'd like to be able to offer 5 scholarships, for a total of $2000. Over the coming weeks, we'll be uploading profiles of the scholarship recipients, so you can see who you'll be benefiting.

Kia Ora,
My name is Katie and I'm stoked to have the opportunity to attend Winter Jam. Learning more about facilitation, and sharing what and where I can, is an exciting prospect and I know from my experience at Summer Jam, that Winter Jam will be an invaluable experience. I'm passionate about community building/strengthening and individual empowerment.
Please support us scholarship recipiants in getting to Winter Jam. It is a great opportunity to connect, inspire, and be inspired, all in the name of positive change!
Thanks heaps,
katie :)

Just last week I gathered some pennies to support this PledgeMe campaign, as I was realising that I may not be able to go to Winter Jam because I did not have enough funds. But then.... it is wonderful how things can turn around, and gifting becomes receiving.

I am very excited to learn, support, and learn a whole lot more about facilitation by coming to Winter Jam. I have been exploring many forms of faciltation over the last few years, and one of the main things I have learnt is that faciltation is a team sport - you cannot practice it alone in your room. Therefore opportunities like Winter Jam, where we can practice, teach, and learn, are such important times to come together as peers and teach and learn from each other.

So thank you to all you wonderful pledgers out there, thanks for helping to enable us to practice this team sport together. I feel honored to be on the receiving end this time, and look forward to finding other ways to share the support in the future.

Hey I’m Stephanie Coleman a passionate young person wanting to make a change in Hawke’s Bay.
A couple of ways I’m already doing that is through being Co-Head of Environment at my school, being part of Napier Youth Council and our regional youth environment council.
Attending Regen’s Winter Jam will provide me with effective tools and skills to get stuff going on in my area. It’ll inspire me and connect me to other young people round NZ wanting to see change in their community too.
Please support us for this awesome opportunity  Open-mouthed smile
Thank you!

Update from Nyx...
Please support 'me' / us in getting to The Christchurch Winter Jam!
I believe that facilitation boot camp will strengthen and provide me with the skills I need in everyday life to achieve my goals of working amongst community, and assist me in becoming more confident and competent to deliver the workshops and dialogue sessions I have to offer under CollectiveCreatioNZ (my own community collective in the making).
I'd love clarity of what facilitation REALLY means here and now in the 21st century. And be able to step up to the challenge of supporting ReGeneration in the now and coming future.
