About

2014 World Ultimate Club Championships

Project 2014-01-18 13:55:28 +1300

Hey, our names are Matt and Hamish and we have been selected to play for the Victoria University Flying Disc Club's team going to the World Ultimate Club Championships in Italy at the beginning of August this year.

Ultimate Frisbee gets very little or no funding in New Zealand so these trips are funded solely by the players.

The estimated cost for the tournament is about $6000 per person, which covers our flights to Italy, accommodation, tournament fees, etc. We're looking to get $1500 from PledgeMe to help us get on our way.

For those who don't know Ultimate is a low-contact team field sport played with a flying disc. Points are scored by passing the disc to a teammate in the opposing end zone, similar to an end zone in American football or the in-goal area in rugby.

From its beginnings Ultimate has resisted empowering any referee with rule enforcement, instead relying on the sportsmanship of players and invoking the "Spirit of the Game" to maintain fair play. Players call their own fouls and dispute a foul only when they genuinely believe it did not occur.

All we can say is WOW!

When starting this project we weren't sure of the response it would get but we have a truly amazing circle of friends, family not to mention our friend's and family's friends and family (I hope that makes sense).
Anyway I never imagined that we would raise so much with still a month and a half to go.

Again we want to thank everyone of you who have shared our link, donated, sold raffle tickets on our behalf, come down to BBQs, bought discs, and our teammates who've pushed as and motivated us at training.

It really means the world to us to get this much support and backing from all you guys and all we can do is train even harder to make sure we can make you as proud as possible of us come Italy.

Our only disappointment is with the "anonymous" donors. We dislike that fact we won't be able to personally thank you for your humble generosity so a special thanks to you.

Please keep sharing and supporting us, we really can't thank you all enough.

Hello wonderful friends in the cyberspace world!

The support you have been sending our way in person, pledging to help us on this page and sharing it with your friends has been amazing. In about 2 weeks we have raised a third of our target! This is completely ridiculous in the most awesome way!

Please keep sharing the page and with your help we will make it to Italy and represent both Wellington and New Zealand with your wonderful support pushing us to play faster and stronger to show the World what we've got.

Thank you more than I can put into words and I look forward to meeting you all in person one day to thank you!

Hambone.
