Collab Project with Loading Docs
LOADING DOCS is a trailblazing new initiative co-funded by The New Zealand Film Commission and NZ On Air, and managed by production company Notable Pictures to fund, create and distribute innovative New Zealand documentary shorts.
The Project
HOMING is a 3 minute documentary. It's a journey through a New Zealand home on a summer's day. It's a peaceful work that initiates contemplation on what humans choose to have in their home and the natural and man-made symphony that surrounds us all.
The work has been selected as one of ten documentaries in a new initiative called Loading Docs. All ten works explore the theme of Home. All ten works are 3 minutes long.
The Director
I'm Andrew Scott. I am self-taught and up to this point have been self-funded. My first work 'Kambala' was a 29 minute documentary about buffalo racing in India. People liked it and as a result I got a job on the first series of Takatāpui – the worlds first indigenous gay, lesbian and transgender TV series. Since then I have been working on a number of intimate, observational works for my large and extended family.
The Film
HOMING will explore the concept of home and in doing so take the viewer into an intimate and personal setting. What can we deduce about people from the spaces in which they live and the objects that surround them? What do we extract when we hear but do not see? Each seemingly empty space has a life of it's own and whilst experiencing these we piece together clues as to who the residents may be. By exploring this world in a poetic way, viewers will reflect on their own homes and the objects and sounds within. The film comprises of one continuous shot with a very interesting soundscape.
The Goal
The goal is to raise $2000. With this money I will be able to hire a steadicam operator, utilise post production services and have the guidance of experienced producers who will oversee the project. A great break for me.
When will the documentary be released and where can we see it?
The documentary is due to be released in May and will be available to be viewed online. You will be able to share it with all your friends and family and tell them how YOU made this happen.
Who will my film appeal to?
People who are curious about other peoples homes, people who are interested in gardening, interior and spatial design. Those who like open homes, those involved with the Slow movement, and those who like documentaries with a difference.
Why help me?
Up until now I have been a one-man-band, doing everything myself. This is my chance to work with a skilled team of professionals to make my documentary vision a reality.
In appreciation for your generosity I am offering a variety of great rewards so please check out the column on the right hand side.
By the way, here is the link to my documentary on the Loading Docs website.
Thanks for reading and please tell everyone!
