Langtang Valley Health is an organization that provides medical services in Langtang Valley, rural Nepal, about 3 days walk from the nearest hospital. The area has very high rates of respiratory tract infection and infant and maternal mortality. In addition, it is estimated that around 30% of medicines purchased in the area don’t actually contain what they say they contain – so you might buy some amoxicillian and actually end up with panadol.
We want to change that.
In the past, the Nepali government has funded a medical clinic in the area, but this was shut down several years ago. Our organization is working in partnership with a Nepali NGO and with the Nepali government to re-open the clinic and provide high quality medical services. We have recently completed building renovations and employed our first Nepali nurse. Now, we're looking to raise some money to buy an oxygen concentrator, a device that creates compressed, high quality oxygen essential to alleviate altitude sickness and respiratory ailments.
The oxygen concentrator is worth approximately $2300 and is a specialized piece of equipment that will operate effectively at low temperatures and high altitude.
So help us purchase this piece of life saving, lung saving equipment!

Just a quick update - we've now confirmed that the oxygen concentrator will be carried up the valley in March next year by one of our trustees. Exciting!
