Help South Auckland Grow!

Project 2013-10-20 23:47:00 +1300

We have hit our goal, but will still use additional donations to increase the number of trees and plants around our Marae and Fale - if you want to donate, PLEASE DO!!!! ALL money will be used for the same purpose!

The students of Room 5 would like to leave a graduation legacy behind that supports, promotes and maintains our school value of sustainable living. Students at MIS work in our school gardens and use the food grown for school needs.

We are raising money to purchase food trees to be planted in/around our new Marae and Fale complex that is opening this term.

We require (at the very least):
  • plum trees
  • fig trees
  • avocado trees
  • tamarillo trees
  • nikau palms
Also because of our Pacific Islander population (our school is almost all island families), we are looking to plant:
  • frangipani trees
  • hibiscus trees
  • taro shrubs
  • other flowering shrubs that support pollination
Any money over and above our goal will be used to purchase MORE fruit/food plants to help supply the Marae and Fale with school-grown foods.

With this effort, our students get involved, leave behind sustainable foods for future siblings and family members going to Manurewa Intermediate, as well as a legacy of giving back.

Aroha, and thank you very much for your support! Please SHARE this page with anyone you know that could help!

I think that our sevice went smoothly and I think as a class we did really well to get the money for our school. $800 will provide things for our community and enviorment for the future of our school. The year 8s are leaving behind something for our school.

Our accomplishments.

So far our service has been really successful and we've passed our target by a bit. We achieved our goal and I'm grateful that we had/have 17 donors (supporters) helping us make a more sustainable environment. Now that we can get our plants it will help our school provide fruit and we'll be able to grow some amazing plants in the school gardens. This will help us make a better future for the future generation of Manurewa Intermediate (M.I)  students.
