About

Everlasting Man Audiobook

Project 2013-10-19 00:26:33 +1300

I want to record an audiobook version of G. K. Chesterton's book The Everlasting Man, and release it under a free culture Creative Commons licence. That means everyone will be free to download and share the audiobook however they like.

C. S. Lewis described The Everlasting Man as the "best popular defence of the full Christian position I know".

If you want to know what my reading voice sounds like, check out the recording I made of Henry George's book Progress and Poverty for LibriVox. My recordings for that project were expertly edited by TriciaG, who's agreed to edit my recordings for The Everlasting Man, too. (We'll share the money, half each.) If this project gets funded, I'll be buying a better-quality microphone than the one I used for Progress and Poverty.

The Everlasting Man is in the public domain in New Zealand, because G. K. Chesterton died (much) more than 50 years ago. But because the book was first published two years after the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio was founded, it's not in the public domain in the USA, so LibriVox can't host the recording. So if I record it, I'll need to set up a New Zealand website to host it myself.

And in 2014, C. S. Lewis's books will also be in the public domain in New Zealand, so if this goes well, then after recording The Everlasting Man, I might seek pledges for recording some of his books, too.
