RubyConf For Phil And Tim

I learned that @parndt [github] and @halorgium [github] weren't attending RubyConf 2013 because it's expensive. They're both Ruby Heroes in my book because of their open source work, and so I thought I'd see if the community would help them get to Miami.

If you're unfamiliar with them, let me provide a brief synopsis of their work:


Phil Arndt

Phil is the maintainer and project leader for RefineryCMS.  Refinery is one of the most widely used CMSes in the Rails ecosystem, and he's been working on it tirelessly (well maybe he gets tired occasionally) for years now.

He's also a core contributor to Forem, the best Rails3 Forum Engine.

He's listed as an author on 49 gems (and counting?) at RubyGems.

Here's his public contributions graph from GitHub:

See?  He basically contributes open source software nonstop (although I think we can all agree that he got kind of lazy between May and June, amirite?)

Tim Carey-Smith

Tim is one of the two main contributors to Celluloid, which Tony Arcieri started to bring the Actor Model and a good concurrency model to Ruby.  He's been doing significant work refactoring and reworking Celluloid's internals to make it more flexible and to bring it a good story re: supervision trees.

Tim is listed as an author of 26 gems on RubyGems.  He's also just generally a nice guy and contributes to a lot of different open source repos.


Details re: money

Tim is already in the states right now, so he could make it for ~$1500nzd. Phil said he could swing it for ~$3000nzd, bringing us to a total of ~$4500nzd or ~$3724usd.  With transaction fees, this comes to ~$4860nzd or ~$4030usd.  Please help me bring these epic open source hackers to RubyConf where they belong!
