About

INVISIBLE

Project 2013-10-04 01:21:47 +1300

The Setting

We are a group of six second year architecture students from the University of Auckland participating in this year’s Auckland Heritage Festival. We are one of the festival’s official events – Here Now: Re-imagining New Lynn – and will be creating a sound installation to celebrate its past as well as possibilities for the future. It will be held in the New Lynn Merchant Quarter, and is expected to gather the community of New Lynn as well as greater Auckland.

The Proposal

We will be creating a sound installation consisting of small mechanism contraptions that will be scattered around the empty shop fronts in New Lynn. They will be creating noise with different sound elements- pipes, columns, metal studs through simple motions like tapping. These will go off in 15 min intervals like the periodic chiming of a clock.

We want to bring the community together to notice the unnoticed, and realise the context they are in. The contraptions are there to surprise, be discovered and pondered over, to intrigue and to make aware of the building they walk through. Not only would the observers become aware of the context, but be reminded of the phenomenon of time passing by. We want the public to see beyond the exhibit to the context of New Lynn, and by reflecting on what they experience define the fabric of New Lynn in their own way.

In order to achieve this project we need sponsorship to gather materials. We are a zero- budget based project so any help will be greatly appreciated to bring our project to life.

Please and thank you :D
