Jacob (15) has been swimming since he was 5, coming up from the ranks of learning and now at squad level with the Wanganui Swimming Club. This year Jacob has had a fantastic season breaking four Wanganui records, qualifing for 6 events at NZ Short Course (held in October) but has also been selected as a team of 20 under 15 year olds to swim as part of the Swimming New Zealand Zonal Team in October 2013 for the greater Wellington Region.
Jacob currently trains 7 times a week having rest days on Wednesdays and Sundays. Training involves early mornings and sometimes again after school. Fitting in school work and home work can sometimes be a mission but Jacob is making it all work and is well on his way to gaining his NCEA Level 1 this year.
The Wanganui Swimming Club is taking a team of approximately 10 swimmers (plus Coach and Manager) to Melbourne in December to compete at the Victorian Swimming Champs. This trip to Melbourne will be a great stepping stone to future international swimming events that Jacob is likely to compete in.
We have set up this Pledge Me account to assist towards funding needed to get Jacob to Melbourne in December.

NZ Short Course and NZ Zonal Meet
27/10/2013 at 8:29 AM
So NZ Short Course has now been and gone, Jacob swam well finishing 5th for his age in the 200m Breaststroke and making finals for 15 and 16 year old boys (great effort for a 15 year old). Following the Short Course meet he had the Zonal Team Meet also in Wellington where he swam in three events - once again doing well in the 200m Breaststoke and coming away with a silver medal.
We have now paid for the airfares for the swim meet in Melbourne but would still like help with accomoodation and the rest of the travel costs. As you can image accommodation for 8 days plus travel and food to and from the event will still be large.
A big thank you to those that have pledged to date.
