About

Send The Tower To Nationals!

Project 2013-09-18 04:47:12 +1200

The Tower is the name of the volunteer  Non-Skating Officials who spend their time helping out with roller derby in Wellington and often other parts of the lower north Island.

We volunteer our time all for the Love of Derby, training and officiating on and off track, doing paperwork and tracking stats, and being the best NSOs we can be to support the skaters and refs in  this amazing sport.

This year is Derby Royale - Roller derby nationals in Palmerston North.  16 teams, 3 tracks, 1 winner... and of  course a tonne of volunteers to make it all happen!

A team of  NSO's from The Tower are going up to help other NSO's from around the  country to officiate and facilitate the whole weekend.   We need board and transport, which all cost $$, which will otherwise be  coming out of individuals pockets.

Help us get to Palmy, donate a few bucks so we volunteers can keep doing what we do!

Did you know.... The name "The Tower" comes from the term for a group of  Giraffes.  In NZ Derby NSOs are known as Giraffes.  This affectionate  term came from an image posted by a ref (Zebra) of a giraffe holding a  Zebra up high - thus illustrating the relationship between Refs and  NSOs, where refs can only do what they do with the support of some good  Giraffes.
