About

YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE DANCING

Project 2013-09-04 19:21:40 +1200

My project is to undertake a one year post graduate study in a one year training programme called Dance in Arts in the Netherlands. This programme also acts a youth dance company giving me valuable experience and insight as I make a new transition into the diverse European dance scene. I have been offered a position here and I want to make my dreams come true. My dream is to continue working and performing on the international stage as a professional contemporary dancer and this chance to study and expose myself within the European dance industry is one step toward this goal. I am passionate about what I do but I need the help to do it - I am seeking funding to go toward the cost of tuition. With this help I will be able to focus on my studies and developing myself as a dancer. The total costs I am pledging for will be $500. Please show your support by telling friends and family. I believe that when we give we will always receive back and I hope someday to help other young dancers achieve their goals and dreams.

I am constantly seeking opportunity to expand my exposure and experience within dance. In the past year I have been a member of the ‘Wellington Freelance Dance Collective,' performed in two new dance works at BATS theatre and worked for JAVA Dance Company touring to festivals and teaching throughout NZ and Australia, as well as immersing myself in community engaged dance works with leading NZ choreographers. I have just attended two international dance festivals in Europe and now have the opportunity to continue living, studying and working here. Through an experience such as this I will make invaluable contacts that will facilitate my journey further in establishing an international career in dance. My hope is that there will be many beneficial outcomes for not only myself but the rest of the New Zealand Dance community. An experience such as this is invaluable for a young emerging artist ready to contribute new knowledge to the industry here.

“There is a glimmer of hope in a solo performance which possesses another kind of dance integrity, balance, grace, fluidity and commitment coupled with a sense of being alive. Surely this is the reaction of any of the senses? This solo is beautifully demonstrated by Isabelle Nelson. “

I believe dance connects, engages, challenges and makes us question. It is something inherent in all of us and has been used as part of ceremony, rituals, celebration and entertainment since before the birth of the earliest civilizations. The way dance is perceived by both dancer and viewer is something so individual yet at the same time it has the power to create a collective identity. Dance has the potential to explore and comment on relevant issues in society, the power to pull us in and reflect on our lives and the ability to connect and create joy. I wish to inform this amazing art form with my own movement practice until I find something else that resonates and pulls me in as much as dance does.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for helping to make my Pledge Me Campaign a huge success so far. I couldn't have done it without each and everyone of you. This will make all the difference to me as I commence my overseas dance adventure. I plan to put the use of funds toward my post-graduate programme fees as well as to cover costs of living.

DIA (Dance in Art) programme is going great, I have completed one month now and the training is great for me, I have a solid base here now  and I've just started up some part time-work once a week to help my finances. The group of us is a small team and all from different countries such as Greece, London, Australia, Italy and New Zealand!! We have a show in central Haarlem coming up next week and then one a week following on from this to support Children in Prison in Bolivia! A very exciting time for us and a great cause to dance for.

Please share and forward onto other friends or family who will be interested in my story as there is still 15 more days to go for anyone who wants to pledge their support in my dreams to continue to train and work internationally as a contemporary dancer and performer.

Stay posted

Kindly,

Izzy
