About

Christchurch Pixel Art

Project 2013-08-11 05:24:31 +1200

This artwork captures some of the Christchurch Square hustle and bustle as it was in 2010. It’s a snapshot; years in the making. It’s a piece of our city's colourful and continually evolving character, detailing some of the iconic people and buildings from that time and place.

My name's Rodney. I started this work in 2008. Then in February 2011 the Square as we knew it was taken away and I had to continue working from photos. 780,000 pixels later it’s almost complete, so together we have an opportunity to share it with the people of Christchurch and New Zealand with some nice big prints!

If we reach our target, funds will go towards offset plates and prints, which will made locally using quality 200gsm satin matt paper, with lots of rich colours, and the size will be an impressive 841mm x 594mm (A1). And for pledges received over the target, 20% will go to the Canterbury Earthquake Heritage Buildings Fund, which will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the NZ Government. Rewards will be sent about a month after the PledgeMe deadline.

So hit the like button to help us out, or make a pledge and be a part of making this project come to life, and score a unique reward for yourself or a friend!

All done!

All the print rewards went into the post this week (except the framed ones - those will be finished real soon), each with a cool story behind it.

Thanks again for you support, it's been great fun!

Getting there...

17/09/2013 at 5:14 AM

We now have a whole bunch of new characters courtesy of our immortal pledgers - each bringing their own unique personality to the artwork. It’s looking pretty cool I think. The final version goes to the printer at the end of the week. And if anyone is going to be near the Cargo Bar tonight, drop by after 6pm when I’ll be talking about the project at the Ministry of Awesome Evening.

Whew!

01/09/2013 at 10:19 PM

So, the PledgeMe campaign has come to an end, with a total of 28 lovely people making pledges to this project. Including the government contribution, we’ve raised $578 for the Canterbury Earthquake Heritage Buildings Fund - nice one guys! I’ll soon be making contact with those who chose an immortalised! reward, and getting busy making the new characters...

2 weeks down, 1 to go!

24/08/2013 at 9:37 AM

Thank you to all that have backed this prismatic pointillism over the last couple of weeks!  The project has been gained a bit of momentum and has featured in the PledgeMe newsletter, and even in today's Weekend Press! About a week to go now. I'm already amazed at the support this project has received, and super excited to soon start finalising the artwork and get printing underway...

We have lift-off!

Wow - we're doing it! Thank you so much to all of you that have helped get the project this far, you've been terrifically supportive, and together you're making something cool happen. 20% of pledges received from now on go to the Canterbury Earthquake Heritage Building Fund, and we've only 4 days in, so feel free to spread the word :-)
