Collectif Magazine

Project 2012-03-08 07:13:42 +1300

Collectif is a newsprint magazine that acts as documentation of fresh creative projects around New Zealand that would otherwise go unfound. It is a collaborative project between Sophie Peacocke and Laura Kay (both students of fine art). We have a very similar aesthetic and strong vision for the future of Collectif. We are cousins and have always talked of doing a project together so the collaboration was inevitable.

We have already created the first issue of Collectif and successfully distributed 500 copies around New Zealand in different shops and cafes. We held a launch on the 5th of November in Wellington last year to release the first issue to the public where we received lots of amazing feedback! Collectif has since become a huge success. We desperately want to keep this project going as we have a real passion for it but we can't do it without YOUR help!

(Photo above was taken at the launch of the First Issue of Collectif) For more photos of the Launch see these links... facebook and snapstar.

We decided to make the first issue free as we wanted to get as much exposure as possible but for the second issue we need some support to cover the printing and launch costs. We printed the first issue with money we had saved ourselves. Since the release of the first issue we have connected with more shops that want to stock our magazine increasing the demand for amount of copies we need to print.

We will be interviewing a collection of artists and designers in each issue about their art practice, life and inspiration. We are embracing this magazine as an opportunity to explore the line between a newspaper and a magazine through show casing young artists around New Zealand. 'Collectif’ will also entail fashion editorials with a mix of vintage and New Zealand designers blended together in a grunge, eclectic way. Collectif magazine will encompass both male and female fashion, we have tailored the design as a solution to this brief.

Collectif is an important way to get the word on the street, what we as a young collaboration are about. This is a publication produced for the purpose of refinement through evaluation, to ultimately give our collaboration shape. There may be future developments to the structure and the arrangement of the magazine and there will be some sort of pattern but the two of us will ultimately select content.

We are in the midst of creating the Second issue of Collectif. The money from PledgeMe will help cover the costs of printing and freight at Beacon Print Ltd in Whakatane. We have booked to print it on the 10th of April. The money will also help with the distribution of the magazine around New Zealand. It will also go towards the cost of the issue two launch that is currently being organised for the 24th of April in Christchurch. For the Launch we will print large high-quality A0 images which are offered to Pledgers!

If you need any more information feel free to ask!

Or if you know anyone who would be interested please share this project with him or her!

All pledges will be immensely appreciated.

Love the creative directors,

Sophie Peacocke & Laura Kay
