The Choice Foundation has been helping at-risk kiwi kids in low decile areas through the StandTall leadership programme for over five years.

StandTall prevents disengagement from school before it is too late and is the only programme in NZ focused on intermediate-age kids - teaching them about the importance of:

  • A Good Education;
  • Dreaming Big;
  • Working Hard;
  • and Giving Back to your community. 

What makes StandTall different is that the programme works with good kids who want to work hard and reach their full potential. These are kids that would otherwise often be forgotten and fall through the gaps. Rather than an ambulance at the bottom of the cliff, StandTall provides kids with support and mentoring early on, and ensures that at-risk kids don't become in-risk. 

Most importantly, StandTall shows kids that if you work hard and dream big, you can achieve anything!

The StandTall Cadet Camp, which has been running for four years and through this camp, children are given the tools to be leaders in the their schools and communities. They're also exposed to a variety of fun and challenging outdoor education activities that would be out of reach for them otherwise. 

This year, the Choice Foundation is looking to take 60 kids to the Kokako Lodge in Hunua Ranges (www.kokakolodge.org.nz). While at camp they'll get to take part in activities such as Abseiling, Kayaking, Archery, and Tramping.

In order to put on the camp for these 60 kids the StandTall team needs $10,000 - this amount would go towards: booking the camp, catering, accommodation, and transportation.

The SKYCITY New Zealand Breakers have thrown their support behind the StandTall team to ensure that this camp happens and have offered a variety of rewards for the PledgeMe campaign including signed balls and jerseys, and exclusive fan experiences.   

Without the support of PledgeMe, the Choice Foundation is worried that this will be the first year that they would not be able to offer the StandTall kids the opportunity to attend this fantastic camp - let's stand tall together to make sure that this doesn't happen!
