Send King Homeboy To Berlin, Germany!
Project 2012-03-03 23:39:54 +1300
If you live in Wellington, you know who King Homeboy is, just maybe not by name. If you haven’t met him, chances are you’ve seem him busking on Cuba street in a giant yellow hoody, shorts and the largest pair of basketball boots you’ve ever seen.
King Homeboy, or Toby as his friends call him, or Paul as his family calls him (he has a lot of aliases) is a beatboxer. For those who don’t know, beat-boxing is a form of vocal percussion, closely associated with hip-hop music. For the last decade so, Homeboy has been plying his skills as a beatboxer, through busking on the streets of New Zealand, providing additional percussion in bands such as Olmecha Supreme and entering beatbox competitions.
As well as being a steady busking figure on the late night city streets, in his own unique way Homeboy acts as some form of unofficial Maori warden or Walkwise style dude. He doesn’t drink or do drugs, never has, and when he isn’t busking, he’s usually keeping an eye on the teenagers and young adults who often gather around to watch him perform. Homeboy provides solid entertainment and makes a valuable contribution to the community, and now he needs your help.
Several weeks ago, Homeboy was offered the chance to enter into the 2012 World Beatbox Championships, as to be held in Berlin, as to be held later this year. However to get these, he needs to raise the funds for transport, accommodation and other expenses during the trip. To this end, he is organising two fundraising gigs, on the Friday 16th of March at Fast Eddies and Thursday the 22nd of March at Mighty Mighty.
Therefore, this pledge me account has been organized to help Homeboy reach his goals and make it to Berlin, Germany in time for the world championships.
Please give generously,
Thank you for all your support.
