CYC Southern Tour!
Project 2013-05-20 02:40:23 +1200
The Christchurch Youth Choir takes pride in the fact that it is one of New Zealand's most recent, dynamic and up and coming choral organisations. We strive for choral excellence and wish to set the benchmark in this awesome field of music. From July 26th to July 28th we will be embarking on a tour South... even further down under than we are!
This tour will consist of performances in the heritage treasure of Sacred Heart Basilica in Timaru and then further performances around Dunedin with intended venues including the Dunedin Knox Church. This exciting venture will conclude with a concert back home in early August.
Our team is lead by experienced Musical Director Grant Bartley and accompanied by Matt Everingham. The choir consists of a talented group of 43 auditioned members who produce inspiring and uplifting choral performances. The choir caters for members aged 17-25 and is made up of University and High School students but also includes a zookeeper, game designer and a cafe manager! The choir is proud to be made up of some of the finest young singers in Canterbury. To finance a tour such as this is indeed costly so we wish to draw on the support of the wider New Zealand choral, arts and general community in this venture.
We are forecasting transport and accommodation costs to exceed $5000 so we wish to gather funding for this practical purpose. Our tour will consist of a diverse range of repertoire from film scores to folk songs, gospel numbers to sacred works. These include works by New Zealand Composers such as Douglas Mews and other New Zealand commissions, Eric Whitacre's comedic modern 'Animal Crackers' and all building up to Schubert's impressive Mass in G.
Donating to this project assures you are supporting a group that is continually enhancing and developing young musicians while enriching the cultural fabric of Canterbury across all ages. Any support towards the Christchurch Youth Choir is supporting creativity, inspiration and choral excellence in a region that needs it in this time of post-earthquake rejuvenation.
Thank you so much for visiting us here and we look forward to giving you your reward... but first make a Pledge!
