HI, I'M JIMI.

I founded and run a charity called Live More Awesome with my mate Dan. (www.livemoreawesome.com)

This book is basically about my life. It was awesome, then I got depression and my life pretty much turned to serious shit for a few years, it ruined my marriage, my business and my friendships. Then I met a doctor who gave me all the answers to beating it in just 45 minutes, without any drugs. A week later I was back to my happy best. I want to share those lessons with everyone.

Oh, and then I swam 425km from Taupo to Port Waikato on a Lilo to raise awareness for depression. After that came Live More Awesome. I'm not going to give away the super crazy bits in the middle though...you'll have to buy the book for that. On May 27th the book comes out. You can pre-order it here and be the first to receive it.
You can also go to www.abitmental.co.nz to find out ALL the details about it.

THE TOUR

What this Pledge Me project is about though is the book tour.

There's pretty much no money and not much support in publishing in this country (although my fantastic publishers, Allen & Unwin, are awesome and helping me as much as they can). So, I have to get this book into the hands of the people that need it in some slightly unconventional ways. The tour is taking me from Auckland to Hamilton, Taupo, Wellington, Christchurch then Dunedin. (I will also be dropping by for chats in other towns along the way...) In each city I will work with local people who are suffering or have suffered from depression and get them to help me organise an amazing event for other depression sufferers in that city.

The events are going to be crazy, fun, uplifting and awesome. They're designed to lift people up but most importantly to "Ask For Help". Help is out there and you CAN manage depression.
The events include bouncy castles, smashing crockery, sending messages into the sky, bubble wrap and past versions of you. You'll just have to wait and see...

Obviously, promoting this book costs money, and that's where you come in... Any way that you can contribute to the tour you will be helping to reduce the stigma that depression has in New Zealand. Not only that, but you also might just help someone overcome it themselves.

HOW TO SHARE THIS WITH THE WORLD?!

I'm not some internationally renowned author (yet!), I'm just a guy with a book that I think can help people who are going through the same thing he did.

The best way you can help is to share this very page with your family, friends, and co-workers!

Best ways to share this campaign are:

   •   On Facebook. By far, our best tool for sharing this message is through Facebook. You can
        simply paste this URL (https://www.pledgeme.co.nz/1083) straight onto your page with a
        message

   •   On Twitter. You can also tweet out the video or this direct link -
        https://www.pledgeme.co.nz/1083

   •   A Short Email. Think about the people in your life that may benefit from this message (or
       appreciate helping to spread the message). Write a short note to them in an email! I'll owe ya!

   •   Old fashioned Word-of-Mouth. Unplug the computer and your phone and just talk with
        people in your lives about it. Few things beat a genuine, face-to-face conversation

   •   Unconventional Awesomeness. Smoke signals, carrier pigeons, Morse code, Semaphore
        flags, anything's better than nothing really...

Again, any way you can help - big or small - is deeply appreciated! The more conversations we can start around this issue... the better! It's OK to ASK FOR HELP!

WHERE'S THE MONEY GOING?

Well... It's going to these places;

   •   Putting on the events in each city;

   •   Things like hiring the bouncy castle;

   •   Signage;

   •   Duct Tape;

   •   Props;

   •   Lots of other tiny things that always end up costing a bunch of money

   •   Petrol to drive from Auckland to Dunedin & back;

   •   Ferry Crossing (Return)

   •   Accommodation (Cheapest motels we can find);

   •   Poorly compensating the young gentleman coming to film it all;

   •   Pay my rent whilst I'm not working;

   •   General promotional costs;

   •   7% to PLEDGE ME fees.
