This project is the end result of a university assignment. I am a fourth year student at Massey University Wellington in a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors. I have had to employ an exhibition style for presentation of my work for a paper called 'Art in context' that encourages us to contextualize our art and critique the context other artists present their work in.
I have landed the style of street advertising billboards, due to the underlying influences advertising has on my work. My work is a collection of graphite drawings that represent imagery found within popular culture that comment on the portrayal of females, so to display it in a popular culture forum attempts to contradict itself and really make the audience question is aesthetic perfection OK when it is considered art, even though the same image in advertising is criticized.
